It’s almost Christmas time in Morzine and there is plenty going on in the next two weeks to keep both children and adults entertained during their stay in resort.

Over the past 24 hours, the clouds have rolled in and it looks as though we might be lucky enough to get a white Christmas with heavy snowfall forecast for the next few days. The timing couldn’t be better with The Pleney due to open over the weekend.

Family fun in Morzine over Christmas

The tourist office always put on family-friendly events throughout the winter. If you are in town by Saturday 21st you can get in the festive mood outside the tourist office between 16:30 and 18:30 with welcome drinks, candy floss and a concert by Angel Gospel.

On Sunday 22nd and Monday 23rd, from 11:00 to midday and again from 17:00 to 18:00, children will have the chance to meet Santa Claus by the tourist office. On Sunday between 16:30 and 17:15, and again between 17:45 and 18:30, visitors can enjoy a parade in the centre of town – a sound and light show celebrating Christmas. While on Monday, between 16:00 and 16:45, and 17:15 to 18:00, the tourist office will host a Christmas Fanfare, as well as an ice sculpture demonstration between 16:00 and 18:15.

Where to celebrate Christmas Eve in Morzine?

On Christmas Eve, celebrations really get going! From 14:00 to 18:00 children aged six and upwards can take part in a Christmas elf building workshop, as well as a Christmas decoration making workshop between 14:30 and 16:00 at the Palais Des Sports. Younger children don’t need to feel left out, with face painting taking place at the Tourist Office between 15:30 and 18:30. From 18:00, celebrations in the centre of town reach a climax with the arrival of Santa Claus at the bottom of the Pleney followed by fireworks.

It’s not all about the kids over Christmas, with many of the bars throwing Christmas parties on Christmas eve. In Montriond, La Marmotte d’Or has funk DJ Mr Smith providing the tunes – Christmas jumpers are encouraged. Bar Robinson will also be hosting an apres party with DJs before Cafe Chaud host their very own Christmas party into the night.

How about on Christmas Day?

On Christmas Day, the weekly market will be held by Carrefour for anyone looking to pick up local delicacies. There are a couple of apres-ski parties going on around town – from 16:00, Mr Smith will once again be DJing, this time at Le Tremplin Bar at the bottom of the Pleney. Alternatively, Happy Hours bar at the bottom of Ardent will also be hosting one of their legendary apres parties with their resident DJs. Things then calm down a bit for a few days till the following week when New Year’s celebrations get underway.

Where to party on New Year's Eve in Morzine?

On New Year’s Eve, the celebrations begin at the bottom of the Pleney at 18:30 with a torchlit descent by local ski instructors followed by fireworks leading up to the big party in the town square from 22:00 to 01:00 featuring DJ Jeremy Roberto. This is a great way to get into the party spirit with huge crowds gathering for the countdown. During the afternoon, Mr Smith will also be hosting the last apres-ski party of 2019 at The Cosy Bar in Ardent.

Of course, the bars in town will also be throwing their own New Year's Eve parties. Beanies will be open till 01:00 and will be hosting house DJs Ramsay and Back Werk from 1000lb Sound while The Dixie Micks will be playing at The Dixie Bar. Happy Hours will be throwing another apres-ski party on New Year’s Day with DJ Charlie Wright providing the music.
