The main draw for people coming to Morzine in winter is, of course, skiing and snowboarding in the vast Portes du Soleil area, with 600 km of pistes spread across 12 different ski resorts in France and Switzerland. However, there’s a whole host of other activities to do in Morzine in the summer as well as in the winter. So, whether you're just looking for something to do when the lifts close or you simply don't ski, we promise you you'll have no time to get bored here!
Morzine is an outdoor activities paradise. The alpine town and its surrounding mountains offer hundreds of things to do for every ability and every age. Some activities are perfect for solo travellers while others are more suited to romantic couples.
Families and groups will also find a wide range of things to do in Morzine. From relaxing to full on adrenaline, from child friendly to adults only, from outdoor fun to bad weather indoor activities, there is something for everyone in Morzine.
Below are our three favourite activities in Morzine but there are plenty more to choose from.
Skiing and snowboarding are probably the most popular activities in the Morzine and Les Gets areas. But we're not talking about lift-assisted, downhill skiing and snowboarding only – there's a whole host of activities that involve boards strapped onto your feet including ski touring and split boarding, cross-country skiing or telemarking.
But there's much more than just skiing and snowboarding in Morzine in the winter. The mountains are the perfect setting to go snowshoeing and husky-dog sledging, while the ice skating rinks in Morzine town centre will keep the whole family entertained.
Many people would argue that it's actually mountain biking that's the number one activity in Morzine. The Morzine and Les Gets trails and bike parks are considered the best in the world and attract hundreds of Enduro and downhill biking aficionados every summer to its almost 150km of tracks, that meander through lush forests to reach stunning mountaintops with breath taking views. An experience not to be missed!
In the summer, the Les Gets and Morzine pistes turn into meadows and deep-forested trails to explore on foot. From easy valley strolls to gruelling trail running climbs, everyone can explore the Morzine valley's beautiful sunny landscapes.

A great walk through a beech forest and dramatic limestone gorges carved by the Dranse de Morzine. Expect vibrant rock colours, safe cliffside paths and even a daring glass walkway you can try.
Morzine is great for cyclists. There are 15 mapped itineraries starting from here as well as 25 mountain passes within 50 km. The resort also boasts an international reputation thanks to having hosted 22 stages of the Tour de France. Although the routes are sometimes short, they are often quite steep which means that, to gain the most from your riding in the area, you need to have a reasonable level of fitness. The most famous cycling route here is the ascent from Morzine to Avoriaz which is a short 14.5 km with 850 metres of altitude gain and an average 6% ascent with peaks of 11%. When you're tackling it, try and measure yourself against Bernard Hinault's record: 33 minutes in 1979.
This road biking specialist shop is located on Rue du Bourg, just up the hill from Bar Robinson in the centre of Morzine.
There are a few local and nearby lakes where you can catch some fish and enjoy the alpine scenery: Lac Mines d’Or, Lac Montriond, Lac Plan du Rocher... You can also fish the River Dranse, which runs from Morzine to Evian, in which the much sought after Lake Geneva (Lac Leman) trout spawn their eggs. You must, however, ensure that you have the correct fishing permit and are aware of the local fishing regulations.
To fish on Lac Mines d'Or you can obtain a fishing permit from the Lac Mines d'Or restaurant.
Staying active in Morzine is easy, with plenty of ways to keep fit and have fun. Head to Parc des Dereches for swimming, fitness classes, team sports and a relaxing spa, or try the gym and Pilates studio at Mountain Rehab. There’s a choice of indoor pools, plus squash, tennis and even beach volleyball in summer, making it a great spot for all ages to stay on the move.
Aquariaz is an aquatic paradise set in the heart of Avoriaz offering a huge water park made up of a gentle flowing indoor river, a slidewinder (an aquatic halfpipe), a toddlers paddling pool and water playhouse, a large pool with natural climbing walls.
This gym is fully equipped with all the equipment you need for a great workout. Located at L'Aiglon de Morzine Residence, just five minutes from the centre of resort, it is also open to the public.
The Hive is a well equipped modern and spacious gym for solo or group training.
Mountain Rehab was founded in Morzine in 2007 and since then, have built a fantastic reputation for providing experienced therapists for both sports massage and physiotherapy treatments. They also offer gym facilities and Pilates classes which are perfect for those recovering from an injury or surgery.

Take to the skies in Morzine and enjoy the mountains from a whole new perspective. From scenic helicopter tours to peaceful hot air balloon rides and thrilling paragliding flights, there are plenty of ways to experience the Alps from above.
Daily helicopter trips offer panoramic views over snowy peaks and forests, while hot air ballooning gives a more relaxed way to take it all in. For something more hands-on, try paragliding with a local instructor and glide down from one of the nearby peaks.

Morzine is a great base for a round of golf in the mountains, with two scenic courses nearby. The nine hole Morzine Avoriaz course sits at the edge of the forest with views of the Aravis mountains, while the 18 hole course in Les Gets offers a more technical challenge and sweeping alpine panoramas, including views of Mont Blanc from the seventh tee. Both have welcoming clubhouses, terraces for lunch or drinks and facilities including coaching and equipment hire.
The Morzine Avoriaz golf course is based around the Procolou piste just under Avoriaz town.
The Les Gets golf course is a full 18 hole course with views of the surrounding mountains including Mont Blanc. The course is open during the summer months and has a club house and pro shop.
Horse riding in Morzine is a fun way to explore the mountain scenery, with trails for all levels and lessons available at the Parc des Dereches equestrian centre. You can join a guided ride, take a pony out with the kids or even try a camping trek with views of Mont Blanc. In summer, horse-drawn carriage rides are a lovely way to discover the village and in winter, you can take a traditional sleigh ride through the snow.

If you’ve never tried paragliding before, then Morzine is a great place to learn how to fly. Known as 'parapenting' in France, there are a great number of clubs and organisations in the area whose sole purpose is to give you the experience of flying. Flights usually start at the top of the Super Morzine lift and descend down to the Pléney. Other popular routes depart from the Chaux Fleurie, the Ardent and the Crete d'Arare. Top tip: go on a sunny, warm day when the thermals will keep your airborne for longer.

Montriond Lake (1064 m) is the third largest lake in Haute Savoie, after Lake Geneva and Lake Annecy. Its maximum depth is 19m to a maximum length of 1320m and a maximum width of 235m.
